good to meet you
My name is Kelly Roméo (pronounced like Alpha Roméo, the car company; sadly, no relation). I am a graphic artist, visual designer, and a 3D generalist with an MFA in Interactive Design and Game Development. I have more than a decade of experience working in the video game industry, first as a Marketing Artist, then as Marketing Art Director for Gearbox Publishing. In late 2021, I left the video game industry to teach Gaming and Animation at the university level, only to return to Gearbox Software in late 2023 where I transitioned into the role of 3D Character Artist. I am currently seeking a position in Graphic Design/Motion Graphics where I can utilize the full array of my design skills to represent your company’s brand and identity across multiple media platforms. We should talk!
A bit about me personally. I’m a bit of a nerd, but in the best way. I geek out over Lord of the Rings, tabletop role-playing games, comics, sci-fi movies, and just about anything that involves strong world-building and imaginative storytelling. Those interests have always fed into the way I think creatively. I love seeing how characters, environments, design, and story all come together to make something feel memorable. Whether I’m looking at a movie, a video game, a comic book panel, or a D&D campaign, I’m usually thinking about what makes it work visually and emotionally. That love of storytelling and design is a big part of what drew me to games, animation, and visual design in the first place. I enjoy work that lets me build on an idea, collaborating with others, and helping to create something that feels polished, intentional, and of course fun.
Work Philosophy
The work philosophy I’ve carried with me for years is: “All the way, right away, the happy way.” To me, that means doing the work to the best of my abilities, handling it in a timely manner, and bringing a positive attitude to the process. It's quite a simple idea really, but it has stuck with me because it keeps the focus on quality, accountability, and how we show up for the people we work with. I’ve tried to bring that mindset into every team I’ve been part of, both in how I approach my own work and how I encourage others. And speaking of teams; I do my best work as part of a team that communicates openly, supporting one another, and staying focused on making any project better. I enjoy working with different personalities and different perspectives, because good ideas can come from anyone and anywhere. I’ve learned a lot from the people who have mentored me throughout the years, and I try to carry that forward by being helpful, approachable, and willing to share what I know with those whom I mentor. Because after all, we're all in this together.
